Employment Discrimination - How to Protect Yourself
Many employees are under the impression that their employer has a duty to treat them fairly and equally. They believe that their employer may not "discriminate" against them. However, most forms of "discrimination" - treating one employee differently than another - are completely legal. Such legal discrimination can range from the beneficial (giving a raise to an employee with a winning personality) to the harmful (giving the worst assignment to an annoying employee). Rights of EMS Employees Responding to Emergencies
An Article in the February 1995 edition of The Journal of Emergency Medicine recounted the story of James Garcia, a paramedic in South Carolina who was hit by a car and seriously injured at the scene of an accident. What was remarkable about the case was that Garcia -- not the driver -- was charged with a traffic violation. Mr. Garcia's investigation of South Carolina law revealed no statute which protects emergency medical service personnel at the scene of an accident. The question that comes to mind upon hearing Mr. Garcia's story is: Could a situation like this arise in Maryland? The answer is probably not.
