Joel Smith to present at upcoming seminar on Administrative Law.
Mr. Smith will present “Employment Disputes 101.” He will discuss the use of administrative remedies to assert wage payment, prevailing wage, unemployment and employment discrimination claims. His presentation will examine the importance of primary, exclusive and concurrent jurisdiction, and other principles of administrative law, in employment litigation.

Court of Appeals Affirms Propriety of Binding Arbitration for Public Employee Unions
On Friday, September 28, 2012, Maryland’s highest Court issued an opinion confirming that Maryland’s counties can utilize binding interest arbitration as part of their budgeting.

F.J. Collins argued before Maryland’s highest court to defend the right of voters to sign a petition and have that signature count. The following day, the Court issued an order agreeing. The Court reversed a lower court which demanded “perfection” and discarded signatures over minor issues.”
